Welcome to PGROP
The mission of the PGROP site is to provide a centralized access point for locating Plant Genome
Research "Outreach" activities, programs and resources.
The site seeks to be a portal that serves the needs of a wide-ranging audience.
Whether you are a high-school student or teacher, an undergraduate or graduate student, university faculty,
someone looking for opportunities for minorities and underrepresented groups, or a member of the public
at large (and that includes everyone!) - you will find a wealth of information and tools at your fingertips
as you walk through the portal.
Why is plant genome research so exciting? Quite simply, plants provide essentials for our existence -
ranging from oxygen, food, fibers for clothing, wood for shelter, to natural environments for meditation
and spiritual regeneration.
Plant genome research helps us understand how plants play these remarkable roles, from seed to
maturity and harvest.
Do you know of a site that you feel should be listed in PGROP... We'd love to hear about it.
Click on Suggest a Resource, fill out the form, and one of our curators will enter your suggestions into the PGROP database.
PGROP is supported entirely by NSF grant DBI-0606909.

DNA Interactive
Francis Crick's discovery of the structure of DNA, and what better way to celebrate than by creating an ultra-sophisticated web site commemorating that historic event.

Annotation for Amateurs
Anyone can annotate genes. This site is designed to teach users the basics of gene annotation and provides access to several plant genomes which can be annotated. Once you learn to annotate genes you too can submit proposed annotations that will be evaluated by professionals. If your annotation is accepted it will be added to the appropriate genome database!

Genetic Science Learning Center
Class is in session, and it's time to explore the basics of genetics. What is DNA? What do proteins do? Why do fireflies glow? In The Basics and Beyond, you can build a DNA molecule, transcribe and translate a protein and much more. Check it out!
